Lot 547 A Rare Harper Goff Australialand Map Print.
(Goff, 1960) An incredibly rare print of Harper Goff's map for the never-built Australialand theme park. In 1960, the Forest Hill Heights group hired Goff to consult on the project, reserving 500 acres of land southwest of Melbourne for the park. Upon the public announcement that Victoria would have its own version of Disneyland, Disney sent a stern warning against using their name, making it clear that they were not connected to the project in any way. This map by Goff of the never-realized project gives a fascinating look at what could have been, with areas including Faerieland, Times Square, Trafalgar Square, Krakatoa, the Outback, Great Barrier Reef, a Space Port, a Monorail from Melbourne, and a Giant Roo Burger restaurant. Measuring 24" x 36", the print is in poor condition with heavy creases, a 15" tear on the right side, tape, soiling, and heavy paper loss at the borders, notably at the top left.
